Motorcycle Insurance

Motorcycle Insurance is a mandatory insurance policy that protects a motorcycle and its owner in the case of a loss. In addition to motorcycles, these policies generally cover mopeds, scooters, ATVs, golf carts, and snowmobiles. It is ideal for anyone who drives any type of motorcycle, whether it is a sports bike, dirt bike, or anything in between. This type of insurance works by benefitting the driver, bike and any others on the road.

There are various types of coverage in existence for motorcycle policies. Total loss replacement coverage is normally available on motorcycles that are up to one model year old, and others are insured for either actual cash value or an agreed value. Bodily injury liability coverage provides coverage against certain damages if someone else is killed or injured while operating the motorcycle. This coverage also provides the insured with a legal defense if another party in the accident files a lawsuit. Accessories coverage is normally included for those who carry comprehensive or collision coverage in their policy. This covers any accessories, such as seats, saddlebags, radios and backrests. Rental vehicle coverage is also usually included in the policy. In addition, the insured can opt for transport trailer coverage which protects a trailer that is used to transport the motorcycle. Roadside assistance and trip interruptions are two other popular types of coverage for motorcycle policy holders. Roadside assistance provides towing services for a disabled vehicle, and trip interruption covers lodging, food and alternative transportation when the motorcycle is being repaired.

Even if motorcycle insurance was not mandatory, it would still be extremely beneficial for anyone who owns and operates a bike. Motorcyclists can ride with a peace of mind knowing that their vehicle and accessories are covered in the case of an accident. As with any policy, it is extremely important to read and understand each component of the motorcycle policy so that there are no surprises in the case of an incident.
